Service Description: This GIS map layer represents the geographical boundaries designated asPriority Groundwater Management Areas (PGMA) theTexas Commission on Environmental Quality(TCEQ), The polygon features shown here represent designated Priority Groundwater Management Areas( PGMA) evaluated from 1990 to 2016. The PGMA delineation boundary and purposes are described in the Texas Water Code (TWC), §35.007as areas identified critical groundwater problems within the immediately following 50-year periodcritical groundwater problems including: - Shortages of surface water or groundwater;- Land subsidence resulting from groundwater withdrawal;- Contamination of groundwater supplies, The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality PGMA Program encourages the creation of groundwater conservation districts for those designed areas. For practical information about the PGMA studies and updates, please see the TCEQ website. Subject: This map features represents the geographical boundaries designated as Priority Groundwater Management Areas (PGMA) the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality( TCEQ), The dataset has been maintained by the Groundwater Planning and Assessment Program from TCEQ. The main purpose of designating a PGMA is to ensure the management of groundwater in areas of the state with critical groundwater problems. The PGMA study and evaluation will consider the need for creating groundwater conservation districts and different options for management of groundwater issues.
